Why do you need different products in the morning and at night?

By Dr Alison Jamieson

It is important to Protect in the morning and Repair at night and so the products need to be different as they function for these purposes.

During the day we need to protect against oxidative damage or “rust proof “ the skin so this is when we use antioxidants such as vitamin b , c and peptides underneath a broad spectrum sunscreen. At night we van reverse a lot of photodamage and effects of ageing by using active products such as vitamin A /retinols and keratolytics / hydroxyacids with agents that even skin tone.

We try to keep it simple though so the concept of 2 products in the morning and 2 at night makes it quick and easy to do as compliance and consistency is key.

For the fuller clinical picture, including the circadian biology behind why skin repairs at night and defends by day, and how each step of the Aliangé AM Protocol and PM Protocol maps to that, read Defence by Day, Repair by Night: The Science Behind the AM and PM Protocol.
